The starting point
The best places to stick your head in are not on the beach
The south coast of Tenerife has transparent water and interesting volcanic bottoms, but the really good points are out of reach of those who go with fins from the shore: rock entrances, veriles near the coast and protected anchorages that can only be reached by sailing.
The usual alternatives do not solve either. A diving center takes you to specific points with a schedule and group, which is fine if you are going to scuba dive. And a shared boat excursion stops at a place with a hundred other people getting into the water at the same time.
What's missing in the middle is the obvious: a boat for your group, which stops wherever you want and for as long as you want.
The proposal
Snorkeling from your own boat, and diving with whoever it's time for
Our outings of snorkeling from a boat in Tenerife are private: the boat belongs to your group, with a professional skipper included, and anchors where the conditions of the day allow it. Several boats in the fleet carry snorkeling and kayaking equipment on board; the SUP can be added as an extra.
Now the honest part: we are not a diving center. Our boats are cruising sailboats and catamarans, without compressor, without bottles and without a certified instructor on board. We do not do dives or baptisms, and be wary of anyone who offers them to you from a boat that is not equipped for that.
If you want to scuba dive, the formula that works is coordinate it with a center on the island and use the boat for what it does well: reach the anchorages, spend the day and snorkel without schedules. Tell us when booking and we will guide you.
The water
Why snorkeling here works in the middle of winter

The water on the south coast hardly varies throughout the year. With thin neoprene you are fine and without it you can last a long time. This is the reason why bathing here is not seasonal.

Volcanic bottoms
Nothing to do with the sand of the Mediterranean: here there is rock, caves, walls and structure. This concentrates life and makes any anchorage much more interesting than expected.

Loggerhead turtle
It is common to see it on the surface on this strip of coast. It is not guaranteed - it is wildlife - but it is one of the most frequent encounters and, when it happens, it is what everyone remembers of the day.

Sea to leeward
The southern coast is protected by the Teide from the northeast trade wind, so it usually has flatter seas and better visibility than the north of the island. It is the area where snorkeling makes sense.

Several boats have a snorkel and kayak included. The SUP is added as an extra (€150/week). Ask us what the specific unit you reserve has, because it varies.

This is the real advantage of the private boat: if the anchoring is good, you stay. No one has to return to port because the next shift comes.

Own fleet, not a marketplace. The boat you reserve is maintained, inspected and delivered by us. We do not put you in contact with an unknown owner and we move away.
The check-in is done by a sailor. Not an administrator with a signature sheet: someone who knows the anchorages of the island, the accelerations of the channels and at what time it is convenient to cross.
Support throughout the charter. Our technical team is available the days your rental lasts. If something arises on board, we will resolve it without you wasting the week.

We look at what is available on those dates and we tell you honestly which unit fits your group. Closed budget, without intermediary commission.

You confirm with 50%
50% blocks the reservation and the remaining 50% is paid four weeks before boarding. Until that first payment there is no commitment of any kind.

Check-in at Marina del Sur or Marina Santa Cruz with a briefing from a team navigator: the boat, the area, the part and the anchorages. No rush.

Snorkeling and diving in Tenerife: frequently asked questions
Can you scuba dive from your boats?
No. We are not a diving center: our boats are sailboats and cruising catamarans, without compressor, without bottles and without a certified instructor on board. We do not do dives or baptisms.
What we do do is snorkel from the boat, and coordinate with a center on the island if you want to combine the boat day with dives. Tell us when booking.
Is the water cold in winter?
It does not go below 19–20 °C on the south coast, practically all year round. With a thin neoprene you are perfectly fine and without it you can last for a long time.
It is one of the things that most surprises those who come from the peninsula in January: swimming here is not seasonal.
Do you carry snorkelling equipment?
Several boats in the fleet have snorkelling and kayak included. Paddle surfing can be added as an extra (€150 per week).
As it varies between units, ask us what the specific boat you reserve has. And if you have your own equipment, bring it: the one that fits you is always better.
Where do you anchor?
On the south and southwest coast: Palm-Mar, Playa Paraíso, the coast of Adeje and the anchorages in the area. They are places with clean water a short distance from Marina del Sur.
The specific anchorage is chosen by the skipper according to the wind component of the day, which here rules more than preference.
Do you see turtles?
The loggerhead sea turtle is common on the surface on this strip of coast, so it is a fairly frequent encounter. But it is wild fauna: we do not guarantee it.
If it appears, you must respect it: do not touch it, do not chase it and do not block its path. The skipper makes sure that the approach is done well.
Is it suitable for children or for those who do not swim well?
Yes. You anchor in sheltered areas and with the boat stationary, and there are always life jackets on board. Catamarans have stern platforms that make it much easier to get in and out of the water.
If there are small children in the group, tell us when booking and we will recommend the boat and anchoring accordingly.
How long does the outing last?
For a day of anchoring and snorkeling we recommend long half day or full day: between four and eight hours. Three hours gives you time to reach a nearby anchorage and little else.
