Sailing classes and courses in Mallorca learn by really sailing

One-day introductory classes, weekly immersion courses and 24 hours of internship valid for the PER qualification. About cruising sailboats, not school. Qualified instructors, real navigation through Balearic waters.

✓ Initiation 1 day ✓ Weekly courses ✓ PER Internships 24h ✓ Qualified instructors

Learn to sail on a traditional school It has its advantages — but also a big limitation: you learn on a small drift in a known bay, repeating tacks 200 m from land. At ECC we offer something else: learn sailing on a real cruising sailboat, really sailing through Balearic waters. The difference is between swimming in a pool and swimming in the open sea. You take away transferable skills immediately.

The approach is practical: qualified instructor on board, fleet sailboat between 38 and 55 feet, and real hours of navigation. In a one-day initiation class (8h) you leave with discretion to take the helm on a later outing. In a week of immersion (40-50 actual hours of navigation) you consolidate everything you need to start renting your own sailboat on bareboat.

For those who are in the process of getting the PER (Recreational Boat Pattern), we offer the 24 hours of mandatory practices approved. Fleet sailboat, certified instructor, practice book. If you already have PER and want to advance to Yacht Skipper, we also manage the 48-hour internship block. The season runs from May to October. If what you prefer is to sail as a passenger without learning, look sailing trips.

The fleet of sailboats

15 sailboats for sailing classes and courses

Jeanneau, Bavaria and Beneteau cruising sailboats from 38 to 55 feet. All suitable for classes and practices. For a closed group such as a couple or friends, we assess the most appropriate for the level.

Three formats

Three ways to learn sailing with ECC in Mallorca

Initiation, immersion, official practices. Each one with a different objective. Choose according to your starting point.

Initiation 1 day

Day trip (8h) with a qualified instructor. You learn basic knots, parts of the boat, raising and lowering sails, steering the rudder in tacks. Without pretensions of qualification. Ideal starting point before considering a weekly or PER course. From €180/p.

🗓️

Weekly immersion course

7 days sailing through the Balearic Islands with an instructor on board. ~40-50 real hours of navigation. You leave with everything you need to rent and take your own sailboat on bareboat. Combinable with charter week if you already have level.

📜

PER Internships 24 hours

The 24 hours of mandatory practices for the PER (Recreational Boat Skipper) qualification. Approved sailboat, qualified instructor, sealed notebook. Usually a weekend or three days in a row. From €580/p in a group.

🏗️

Cruising sailboat, not school

You learn what you're going to rent next: a 38-55 foot Jeanneau, Bavaria or Beneteau with all its real complexities (electric winches, diesel engine, navigator, etc.). Not a drifter with a gymnastics sail.

👨‍🏫

Certified instructors

Senior skippers with a Yacht Skipper qualification or higher, teaching experience and didactic vocation. The same ones who run the premium charters — they know how to teach and how to navigate the Balearic Islands.

🌊

Real Balearic navigation

You don't skirt the bay of Palma — you sail along the Tramuntana coast, cross to Cabrera, anchor in a cove. You learn in the real environment where you are going to rent later. The learning curve is faster because the context is real.

Frequently asked questions

What we get asked most about sailing classes

Do I need previous experience for a sailing class?

Not for the 1 day initiation not even for him weekly course — are designed for those starting from scratch. For the PER practices, it is assumed that you have passed the theoretical exam (you are in the degree process). For the Yacht Skipper course, it is assumed that you have PER and a minimum of prior hours.

Are the PER practices here officially valid?

Yes. We work with instructors qualified as a Yacht Master or higher, on approved sailboats to teach PER practices, and we provide a stamped notebook with the regulatory 24 hours. The practices are valid to process the PER qualification before the corresponding Maritime Captaincy. If you need the theory, we refer you to an academy for that part.

How much does the weekly course cost?

Weekly immersion course: from €950/p in an open group (you share a sailboat with 4-6 other people + instructor). For a closed group (couple, friends), full boat from ~€3,500 + instructor ~€1,200 = ~€4,700 total. Staying on board during the week costs extra (~€50/night/person) or you can come and go ashore.

What sailboat is used for the courses?

Any sailboat in the fleet is suitable. For initiation or PER practices, the most used: Cotufa, Tomeu, Katalina or Akilina (between 38 and 45 feet, manageable and modern). For a weekly group course, medium or large sailboats (Sun Odyssey 440, 490 or 519) give more space to spend the night. The choice depends on your level and the group.

Can we do a closed course as a couple or friends?

Yes, totally. For a couple or group of up to 4-6 people, you rent the entire sailboat + instructor. You have the instructor's exclusive pace and attention to your group. For couples or friends who want to learn together and then rent bareboat, it is the ideal format. Ask us for a closed quote.

What do you learn in a week of course?

If you start from scratch: essential knots, parts of the boat, engine management, leaving and entering port, raising/lowering sails, tacking, anchoring, navigation with charts/plotter, weather reading, basic safety. You leave feeling comfortable to rent your own sailboat on bareboat in a later week — always with a moderate-sized boat at the beginning.

What is the best time to take a sailing course?

May, early June, September and October. Consistent winds (8-15 knots, ideal for learning), pleasant temperature, less crowding in ports and coves. July and August are possible but there is more heat, more maritime traffic and availability is tight. Book 4-8 weeks in advance for courses in high season.
