The starting point
You You stay in the south and you don't know where you go out to the sea
Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas, Golf del Sur, Las Galletas, Puerto Colón. Half a dozen names for a strip of coast of a few kilometers, and no website clarifies which is a real port, which is just a hotel zone, and which one is the starting point for sailing.
So you end up booking blindly: you don't know if the boarding is ten minutes or forty from the hotel, if the place has parking, or how long it takes by sea to the only thing you really wanted to see—the dolphins, the cliffs, La Gomera—
And there is a question that almost no one answers and that conditions the entire week: why the charter of this island is concentrated down here and not in the north.
The proposal
Own base in Marina del Sur, 15 minutes from the airport
If you are looking for boat rental in Tenerife South you are looking at the correct area. Almost all of the island's charter leaves from here, and it is no coincidence: the south is in the lee of Teide, which means more sheltered seas, more hours of sunshine per year and usable anchorages within a short distance of each other.
Our main base is Marina del Sur, in Las Galletas (municipality of Arona), where the fleet's boats are moored during the Canary Islands season. It is about fifteen minutes by car from Tenerife South Airport (TFS) and a short distance from Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje, which is where most of those who come to sail stay.
From here you go straight to what there is to see: the Teno-Rasca cetacean strip is just over an hour away by boat, the cliffs of Los Gigantes are half a day away, and San Sebastián de La Gomera is about twenty-something miles away. With or without a skipper, hourly, daily or weekly.
The base
Marina del Sur, Las Galletas (Arona)
Marina del Sur is in Las Galletas, a fishing town in the municipality of Arona that has grown without completely losing its character. It is a quiet marina, very different from the atmosphere of Puerto Colón or Los Cristianos, and that is appreciated when you arrive with luggage for a week.

Check-in is on Saturdays from 4:00 p.m. and check-out the following Saturday at 4:00 p.m. 09:00. If your flight arrives late or leaves very early, tell us when booking and we will organize it.
Our second base on the island is at Marina Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is convenient if you are going to cross into Gran Canaria or arrive through the northern airport.

Las Galletas and Costa del Silencio
Here is Marina del Sur and here you board. Quiet fishing village, with fish restaurants and without the tourist saturation of the Adeje coast. If you are going to charter for a week, it is the best place to sleep the night before.

Los Cristianos
A few miles west. Large port, with a lot of ferry movement to La Gomera and excursion boats. Good transit area, but for quiet anchoring there are much better options a little further away.

Playa de las Américas
The densest tourist center on the island, next to Los Cristianos. Plenty of accommodation and a fifteen hour drive from our base. From the sea, it is the part of the coast that you pass by on the way to Adeje.

Costa Adeje and Puerto Colón
Puerto Colón is the marina of Costa Adeje and the epicenter of tourist excursions on the island. We do not moor there, but it is a common navigation area: the coast of Adeje has good anchorages and arriving by sea is half an hour long.

Palm-Mar and Playa Paraíso
The quiet anchorages in the area, a short distance from Las Galletas. Clean water, little traffic and a good place for the first bathroom stop if you leave in the morning. The plan that works best with small children on board.

Golf del Sur and San Miguel de Abona
East of the TFS airport, with its own marina. More sheltered area from the trade wind and very comfortable if your flight arrives right. For navigation purposes it is to windward of our base, so the return is usually faster than the outward.
Navigation
Why we navigate in the south and not in the north
Tenerife has a 3,700 meter mountain in the center, and that conditions everything. The northeast trade wind reaches the north of the island and splits: one branch passes through the east, another through the west, and in the middle there is a large zone of calms to leeward that covers a good part of the south and southwest coast.
The practical result is that the south has more manageable sea, less cloud cover and anchorages usable. The north and northeast, on the other hand, are fully exposed to the trade wind, have almost permanent swells and very few places to anchor with guarantees. That's why the island's tourist charter is concentrated down here.
What you need to know is that this calm zone ends suddenly. At the ends of the island and in the channels between islands the wind is compressed into the so-called acceleration zones, and in a few miles you can go from a motor to two reefs. It's not a problem—it's what makes sailing here interesting—but it's exactly what we went over with you in the briefing.
If your plan involves crossing to Gran Canaria, the base that works best is the one in Santa Cruz. For everything else – cetaceans, Los Gigantes, La Gomera, anchoring – the south clearly wins.

What port do you depart from in Tenerife South?
From Marina del Sur, in Las Galletas (Arona). It is our main base on the island during the entire Canary season, from November to April, and it is where the 14 ships in the fleet are moored.

How far is it from Tenerife Sur airport?
About 15 minutes by car from Tenerife Sur–Reina Sofía airport (TFS). It is one of the best connected charter bases in Spain in that sense: you land and are on board in just over half an hour.
If you arrive through the Tenerife North airport (TFN), the base that suits you is the one in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Can you board in Costa Adeje, Puerto Colón or Los Cristianos?
Boarding is done in Marina del Sur, which is where we have a base. We do not moor in Puerto Colón, Los Cristianos or Playa de las Américas.
The good news is that they are just a few minutes away by car: if you are staying in Costa Adeje or Los Cristianos, getting to Las Galletas is a short drive. And by sea, that entire coast is the usual navigation area for our charters.
Why do we sail in the south and not in the north of Tenerife?
By the Teide. The 3,700 meters of volcano split the northeastern trade wind and create a large area of leeward calm that covers the south and southwest coast: more manageable sea, more sun and usable anchorages.
The north and northeast are fully exposed to the trade wind, with almost permanent swell and very few anchorages with guarantees. That is why the island's tourist charter is concentrated in the south.
What can you see sailing from Tenerife South?
The Teno-Rasca cetacean strip is just over an hour away by boat: resident population of pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins throughout the year. The Los Gigantes cliffs, about 25 miles, half a day.
And San Sebastián de La Gomera, about 22–25 miles, which easily fits into a day of sailing and is the most natural crossing between islands in the archipelago.
Do I need a license to rent in Tenerife South?
Only if you want to take the boat yourself. For the modality bareboat we ask for PER or equivalent and demonstrable experience.
If you do not have a qualification, any of the 14 boats are hired with a professional skipper and you do not need a license of any kind. We detail it in rental without a license.
Are there short departures or only weekly charter?
The main format is the weekly charter from Saturday to Saturday, which is where the best price per day is obtained.
We also offer departures of one day full and per hour, always with skipper included and subject to the gaps left by the fleet between charters.
When is the season in Tenerife South?
Our fleet is in the Canary Islands from November to April. It is the best window of the year here: the trade winds ease compared to summer, the air remains between 20 and 23 °C and the water does not drop below 19 °C.
From May to October the same boats sail in Mallorca. One fleet, two seasons.
