Search for "what to do in boat in Tenerife" and that is literally what Google returns. The island's nautical offering is built on volume: large boats, fixed schedules, three daily shifts and a price per person low enough that filling is the only objective.

It works for those who want to check the box. It doesn't work when your plan has any particularity: there are nine of you, it's a birthday, you are traveling with small children, you want to stay with the dolphins for more than twenty minutes, or you simply don't feel like sharing the celebration with one hundred and fifty strangers.

There you are left with no intermediate options. Or a place on a crowded boat, or renting an entire boat without really knowing what you are hiring or who is taking it.

The proposal

If you are looking for what to do by boat in Tenerife, the first thing that appears are the usual excursions: the pirate ship, the Viking ship, the two-hundred-seater catamaran that leaves three times a day from Los Cristianos or Puerto Colón. They work, they cost little per person and for many people they are enough.

We do something else. All our activities are aboard a private boat from our fleet: only your group, without an imposed schedule, without a public address system and without the next turn waiting on the dock. With professional pattern included, so you don't need a qualification of any kind.

From November to April the ECC Yacht fleet is in the Canary Islands, based in Marina del Sur (Las Galletas, Arona) and Marina Santa Cruz. These are the 17 plans that can be set up from there, from three hours to a whole week.

The difference

Private boat or shared excursion: what are you doing? buying

Tenerife has one of the largest maritime excursion offers in Europe, and almost all of them work the same: large capacity boats that leave from Los Cristianos, Puerto Colón or Los Gigantes with a fixed schedule, fixed route and several shifts a day. They cost between 30 and 60 euros per person and are filling.

What you buy there is a seat. What you buy with us is the entire boat: you choose the departure time, the route is decided on board, if the dolphins appear you stay as long as you want and if you like the anchorage you don't have to return because the next group enters.

The price per person is higher, obviously. As a couple it is clearly a whim; In a group of eight or ten the difference is quite narrow. And for a celebration - a birthday, an engagement, a farewell - the comparison doesn't even make sense.

If what you're looking for is the cheap shared excursion, we'll tell you straight: we don't do it and there are operators on the island who do it well.

How to choose

Which plan fits with the time you have

Three hours

It's enough for a sunset, a romantic walk or a short celebration with a swimming stop on the south coast. It is our usual minimum duration.

Four or five hours

Enter the whale watching with margin, a party or farewell complete, and a long anchorage for snorkeling and paddleboarding.

Full day

The Los Gigantes cliffs, a day with lunch on board or a day of deep sea fishing. Six to eight hours.

With a night on board

The crossing to La Gomera or a night cruise with overnight stays at anchor. Requires at least two days.

Own fleet, not a marketplace. The boat you reserve is maintained, inspected and delivered by us. We do not put you in contact with an unknown owner and we move away.

The check-in is done by a sailor. Not an administrator with a signature sheet: someone who knows the anchorages of the island, the accelerations of the channels and at what time it is convenient to cross.

You confirm with 50%

50% blocks the reservation and the remaining 50% is paid four weeks before boarding. Until that first payment there is no commitment of any kind.

What can you do by boat in Tenerife?

The plans that work best here are the whale watching in the Teno-Rasca strip, navigation to the Los Gigantes cliffs and the crossing to La Gomera. They are the three specific to this island and are not found in the same way in any other Spanish destination.

From there, everything that can be done on a private boat: sunset, dinner on board, party, farewell, deep-sea fishing, snorkeling, sailing courses and company events. In total, 17 plans.

Are they shared excursions or a private boat?

Always private. The boat belongs to your group during the entire outing and no one gets on board except the skipper, and the hostess if you hire her.

We do not do single places or shared outings. It is the main difference with most of the island's offer, which works by filling large boats with a fixed schedule and route.

Do I need a nautical license?

No. All activities go with professional skipper included, who is responsible for the boat. You and your group are passengers on a private boat.

If you have PER and experience and prefer to take the boat yourself, that is bareboat rental and it works differently.

How much does a private boat activity cost?

It depends on the plan, the duration, the available boat and the date. We do not publish a single rate because it would be misleading: a three-hour sunset during the week in January does not cost the same as a full day at Easter.

What is fixed: the skipper is included, there is no intermediary commission and the budget is closed before booking. Write to us with the date, group and plan and we will send it to you.

From which port do the activities depart?

From Marina del Sur, in Las Galletas (Arona), which is our main base and is a quarter of an hour from the Tenerife Sur airport, or from Marina Santa Cruz de Tenerife depending on the boat.

If you are staying in Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos or Playa de las Américas, Marina del Sur is just a few minutes away by car. More details in Tenerife South.

What is the best time of year?

Our season in the Canary Islands runs from November to April, which is also the best window to sail here: the trade winds ease compared to summer, the air is around 20–23 °C and the water does not drop below 19 °C.

For whale watching, the month does not matter much: the pilot whale and bottlenose dolphin populations are resident and are seen all year round.

Can food and drink be brought on board?

Yes, and it is the most common. The boats have a full kitchen, refrigerator and kitchenware, so you can bring whatever you want.

If you prefer not to worry, we coordinate catering on board. Consult us when booking and we will set it up with the departure.

What if the day goes bad?

The skipper decides with the report in hand. If conditions do not allow the planned route, it is normal to propose a sheltered alternative on the south coast, which is almost always navigable.

If you cannot leave directly, it is rescheduled to another available day. We do not take a group out to sea in conditions that are not suitable.
