The starting point
Getting the title is not the same as knowing how to sail
It is the most repeated complaint among those who have just degree: you have studied buoyancy, you have taken the exam and you have the paper, but the first time you put yourself at the helm of a twelve-meter boat with people on board you realize that you are missing what is important. The miles.
And there is a second trap. Many initiation courses are done in light boats or in waters so sheltered that you never see real wind. You learn to handle a small boat in easy conditions, which is exactly what you will not find the day you rent a cruising sailboat.
In the end, many people with a degree end up not daring to take a boat. Not due to lack of knowledge, but due to lack of real hours at the helm.

Learn by sailing, on the boat that you are going to rent later
Our sailing classes in Tenerife are done aboard the same 38 to 55 foot cruising sailboats that make up the charter fleet, with sailors who have been organizing voyages for more than thirty years. There is no classroom, there is no simulator and there are no toy boats.
And they are made here for a specific reason: in the Canary Islands there is real wind. The northeast trade wind blows steadily, there are acceleration areas between islands and deep anchorages. You learn much faster in a place where things happen than in a flat bay.
The formats range from an introductory day to a full week on board taking miles on the voyage. If what you need are official degree practices, ask us before booking: we confirm what we can offer you and what we cannot.

How to learn on board

Initiation — a day
For those who have never sailed. Parts of the boat, safety, port maneuvering, hoisting and trimming, tacking and jibing. At the end of the day you will have been at the helm and understood why the boat does what it does.

Performance — several days
For those who have the title and few miles. Repeated port maneuvers until they leave, anchoring, man overboard, reading the report and making decisions. Which really gives confidence.

Miles on the road — one week
The format we most recommend. You cross at La Gomera and navigate the western archipelago. Guards, planning, acceleration channels: real navigation, not exercises.

In family or in a group
It works well when in the group there is one who knows and several who don't. Navigation is combined with anchoring and swimming, and everyone ends up lending a hand in the maneuvers.

Why here and not anywhere else
Constant trade wind, acceleration zones, anchorages of 15 to 25 meters and few ports of refuge. Everything that is an exception in the Balearic Islands is routine here. You learn beforehand.

Service offered by and for sailors. The difference is noticeable from the check-in.
Own fleet, not a marketplace. The boat you reserve is maintained, inspected and delivered by us. We do not put you in contact with an unknown owner and we move away.
The check-in is done by a sailor. Not an administrator with a signature sheet: someone who knows the anchorages of the island, the accelerations of the channels and at what time it is convenient to cross.
Support throughout the entire charter. Our technical team is contactable for the days that your rental lasts. If something arises on board, we solve it without you wasting the week.

Tell us the plan
Dates, how many of you are and what you want to do. By WhatsApp or by phone, in two minutes. We do not ask for information that we do not need.

We propose a boat and price
We look at what is available on those dates and we tell you honestly which unit fits your group. Closed quote, without intermediary commission.

You confirm with 50%
50% blocks the reservation and the remaining 50% is paid four weeks before boarding. Until that first payment there is no commitment of any kind.

Boaring
Check-in at Marina del Sur or Marina Santa Cruz with a briefing from a team navigator: the boat, the area, the part and the anchorages. No rush.

Learning to sail in Tenerife: frequently asked questions
Do you do official internships for the PER or other qualifications?
Consult us before booking. Approved qualification internships have administrative requirements specific and we prefer to confirm on a case-by-case basis what we can offer you, instead of you taking it for granted and being surprised.
What we do offer for sure is real practical training: maneuvering, navigation, anchoring and miles aboard cruise ships with experienced sailors.
Is previous experience necessary?
None for the initiation format. It starts with the basics: parts of the boat, safety on board, ropes, hoisting and trimming.
For the cruise miles format, it is advisable to have some basis, because the use is much greater if you already know how to move around the boat.
Why learn in the Canary Islands and not in the Mediterranean?
Because things happen here. The trade wind blows steadily, there are acceleration zones between islands, deep anchorages and few ports of refuge. Everything that is exceptional in the Balearic Islands is the norm here.
You learn much faster sailing in real conditions than in a flat bay with an afternoon breeze.
How many students are there per boat?
Small groups, because on a cruising sailboat it doesn't make sense any other way: if there are many of you, each one touches the helm for a while minimum.
Tell us how many there are and what level you have and we will propose the format and the boat that fits.
What duration do you recommend?
A day to try and understand the basics. Several days if you already have a degree and what you lack is ease. And a full week if you really want to gain miles and confidence.
The weekly format is the one that changes people the most: on the fifth day you are making decisions yourself.
Do you sleep on board?
In the weekly format yes, and it is part of the learning: watches, night anchoring, coexistence and planning for the next day. It's how you really sail.
In the one-day or single-day formats, no: you leave and return to port.
Can I take the boat after the course?
To rent in modality bareboat we ask for a qualification valid and demonstrable experience. A week of miles with us counts as real experience, and we also know you.
It is in fact one of the most reasonable ways: you do the training week and on the next trip you take the boat.
When can it be done?
From November to April, which is when the fleet is in the Canary Islands. It is also a good time to learn: the trade wind eases compared to summer and the conditions are demanding without being harsh.
From May to October, the same boats are in Mallorca.
