Crossing to La Gomera by boat the best reason to sail here

It's about 22 to 25 miles nautical routes from Marina del Sur (Las Galletas) to San Sebastián de La Gomera. On a cruising sailboat, half a day of sailing depending on the wind of the day.

It is a perfectly acceptable crossing, but it is not a walk: you have to cross a channel with an acceleration zone and it is advisable to leave early to arrive with plenty of light.

Technically yes: round trip fits into a long day. But we do not recommend it, because it involves crossing the canal twice on the same day and spending only a couple of hours in La Gomera.

The format that makes sense is two or three days at least, sleeping on board in San Sebastián or Valle Gran Rey. A full week gives you time to circle the island and continue towards La Palma or El Hierro.

The northeast trade wind is compressed when passing between two islands, so in the channel the wind can increase several numbers compared to what was on the coast. It is a known and foreseeable phenomenon, not a surprise.

San Sebastián de La Gomera has a marina with full services and is the natural entry point. Valle Gran Rey, on the west coast, is the anchorage with the most character on the island.

The plan changes. On a multi-day charter this is normal and nothing happens: if the channel is not ready to cross that day, you navigate the southwest coast of Tenerife—Los Gigantes, the cetacean strip, Adeje anchorages—and cross it the next day.
