The starting point
Canary Islands sell all marlin the year, and that is not true
Tenerife has a well-deserved reputation as a deep-sea fishing destination: the bottom falls very deep a few miles from the coast, with no continental shelf in between, and that puts deep-water species within a day's reach. But the tourist promotion of the island has turned that into a permanent claim that is not sustained.
Reality is seasonal. The peak of the blue marlin in the Canary Islands is summer, not winter. Whoever sells you a guaranteed marlin outing in January is selling you an expectation that will not be met, and they know it.
And there is a second confusion that should be undone: a sport fishing boat with a fighting chair and outriggers is not the same as a cruise boat from which you fish. Both are valid; the price and the experience have nothing to do with it.

Our fishing excursions in Tenerife are private outings aboard a sailing boat or catamaran from the fleet, with a professional skipper on board. We fish by trolling in navigation, which is the modality that fits with this type of boat and with these waters.
We are clear with what we are: we do not have specialized sport fishing boats. No combat chair, outriggers or professional fish finder. What we have is a comfortable boat, very deep water within walking distance and a skipper who knows the area.
For those looking to combine sailing, a good day at sea and the real possibility of getting something, it works very well. For those looking for a pure and simple deep sea fishing charter, there are specialized operators on the island and we will tell you without any problem.

Depth just a few miles away
The Canary Islands are oceanic islands: there is no continental shelf. The bottom falls quickly to a great depth very close to land, so you reach high waters in a short navigation time.

What's in winter
The season from November to April is for tuna and species of passage: bonito, skipjack, melva, and with luck dorado or some wahoo. It is classic trolling fishing, not trophy fishing.

And what's in the summer
The blue marlin enters the summer, which is when the island has its trophy season. Our fleet is then in the Balearic Islands, so if your goal is marlin, you will be interested in a local fishing operator in those months.

It is the modality that fits with a cruise boat: you cast lines and sail. It works especially well on long voyages, on the way to La Gomera or back from Los Gigantes.

Service offered by and for sailors. The difference is noticeable from the check-in.
Own fleet, not a marketplace. The boat you reserve is maintained, inspected and delivered by us. We do not put you in contact with an unknown shipowner and we move away.
Check-in is done by a navigator. Not an administrator with a signature sheet: someone who knows the island's anchorages, the accelerations of the channels and what time it is best to cross.
Support throughout the charter. Our technical team is contactable for the days that your rental lasts. If something arises on board, we will resolve it without you wasting the week.

Do you have sport fishing boats?
No, and we prefer to say it upfront. Our fleet is cruising sailboats and catamarans: they do not have a fighting chair, outriggers or professional fishing finder.
What we offer is trolling fishing from a comfortable boat, with a skipper on board, in very deep waters a short distance from the coast. If you are looking for a specialized deep-sea fishing charter, there are operators on the island that do it and we will tell you without a problem.
Can you fish for marlin in winter?
The peak of the blue marlin in the Canary Islands is in summer, not winter. Our Canarian season runs from November to April, so it is not the marlin window.
If someone offers you guaranteed marlin in January, be wary. In our season, the realistic thing is tuna and species of passage: bonito, skipjack, melva, and with luck dorado or wahoo.
What is fished then from November to April?
Classic troll fishing: small and medium-sized tuna — bonito, skipjack, melva— and, with luck and depending on the year, dorado or some wahoo.
It is not trophy fishing, it is a good day of sea with a real possibility of getting something. And since they are wild animals, we do not guarantee capture either.
Do I need a fishing license?
Yes. Recreational maritime fishing in the Canary Islands requires a valid regional license, and there are protected species, minimum sizes and regulated quotas.
It is the responsibility of those who fish to have it and comply with the regulations. We guide you on where to process it, but we do not manage it.
Do you have to bring your own equipment?
It depends on the boat: ask us what the specific unit you reserve has, because it varies from one boat to another.
Many clients bring their own equipment, which is usually what those who fish regularly prefer. If you don't have one, tell us when booking and we'll see what can be assembled.
Do I need a nautical license?
No. The departure carries professional skipper included, who is responsible for the boat. You go as passengers on a private boat.
How long does a fishing trip last?
We recommend full day, six to eight hours. Trolling takes miles and hours: in a three-hour outing there is barely enough time to cast lines and return.
The other formula that works very well is to integrate it into a trip: you fish while sailing to La Gomera or back from Los Gigantes.
Can it be combined with other plans?
Yes, and it is the most common. The route to deep waters passes through the Teno-Rascacetacean strip, so the sighting usually falls on the way.
It also combines well with a swimming anchorage on the way back or with the crossing to La Gomera on a charter of several days.
