The starting point
In Tenerife almost everything that floats has a motor
The nautical offer on the island is enormous and is almost all motorized: boats by the hour, excursion catamarans that are powered by motor even if they have a pole, quick two-hour departures. If what you were looking for was to raise sail and sail, it is difficult to find it.
And there is a second thing that surprises those who arrive with low expectations: there is real wind here. The northeast trade wind blows steadily for much of the year and allows you to sail for entire days without turning on the engine, something that in the Mediterranean in August is more the exception than the norm.
That is to say: Tenerife is an excellent sailing destination with a minimal sailing offer. Many people end up paying for a motorized trip without ever knowing that the other option existed.

A sailing trip around Tenerife with us it is a private outing aboard one of our 12 sailboats from 38 to 55 feet —Jeanneau, Bénéteau and Bavaria—, with professional skipper included. Your group is on board and no one else.
The navigation area is the southwest coast, which is where the island works: in the lee of Teide the sea is manageable and the wind comes in cleanly as soon as you leave a little land. If there is a trade wind, you sail. If there isn't one, the boss tells you before you leave instead of selling you smoke.
You can ride from three hours to a full day. And if you want to take the helm for a while under the supervision of the skipper, do it: it is normal and most of our skippers like to explain how to trim a sail.

Why sailing is good on this coast

Constant trade wind
The northeast blows for much of the year with a regularity that the Mediterranean does not have. In winter it relaxes compared to summer, which is exactly what makes navigation comfortable instead of demanding.

El Teide commands
3,700 meters of volcano split the wind and create an area of calm in the lee with flat seas. In a few miles you go from sailing with vigor to staying sheltered. That makes each outing different.

Short sleeves in January
20–23 °C air and 19–20 °C water in the middle of winter. Sailing in December without a jacket is an experience that is difficult to find in the rest of Europe.

Service offered by and for sailors. The difference is noticeable from the check-in.
Own fleet, not a marketplace. The boat you reserve is maintained, inspected and delivered by us. We do not put you in contact with an unknown owner and we move away.
The check-in is done by a sailor. Not an administrator with a signature sheet: someone who knows the anchorages of the island, the accelerations of the channels and at what time it is convenient to cross.
Support throughout the charter. Our technical team is contactable for the days that your rental lasts. If something arises on board, we will resolve it without you wasting the week.

You confirm with 50%
50% blocks the reservation and the remaining 50% is paid four weeks before boarding. Until that first payment there is no commitment of any kind.

Check-in at Marina del Sur or Marina Santa Cruz with a briefing from a team navigator: the boat, the area, the part and the anchorages. No rush.

Sailing trip in Tenerife: frequently asked questions
Do you really sail by sail or do you go by motor?
Sail whenever there is wind, which on this coast is most of the days. The northeast trade wind comes in cleanly as soon as you leave the land.
If on a specific day there is not enough wind, the skipper tells you before you leave. We prefer to notify you and let you decide rather than hoping to sail and end up on a motor ride.
Do I need to know how to sail or have a qualification?
No. The departure takes professional skipper included and you are passengers on a private boat. No license or experience is required.
If you have PER and experience and want to take the boat yourself, that is bareboat rental and it works differently.
Can I take the helm?
Yes, under the supervision of the skipper and when conditions allow it. It is normal and many clients end up trimming sails.
The legal responsibility remains with the skipper, so the final say on when and where is yours.
How long does a sailing trip last?
From three hours to a full day of six to eight. Three hours are enough to navigate the southwest coast; A full day includes anchoring, bathing and food on board.
Short departures depend on the gaps left by the fleet between weekly charters, so availability varies with the date.
Does the sailboat list? Do people get seasick?
Heeling, yes: it is part of sailing. Under normal conditions on this coast it is a comfortable list and many enjoy it.
If in the group there is someone prone to seasickness, small children or elderly people, we recommend catamaran, which sails upright.
How many people can fit?
Depending on the sailboat: 6 people in those of 38 and 41 feet to 10 or 11 in those from 51 to 55. For day trips without overnight stays, the capacity may be somewhat greater on some boats.

What port does it depart from?
From Marina del Sur, in Las Galletas (Arona), a quarter of an hour from Tenerife South airport and very close to Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje. See Tenerife South.
What is the best time?
From November to April, which is when our fleet is in the Canary Islands and when the trade wind eases compared to summer. More manageable sea, 20–23 °C and empty anchorages.
In July and August the wind blows much stronger here, especially in the channels between islands. From May to October these same boats sail in Mallorca.
