The starting point
You asked for a catamaran and they gave you a floating disco
The catamaran excursion is Tenerife's star product and also the most ambiguous. Under the same name, two-hundred-seat boats with a bar, common music and public address systems, and thirteen-meter cruise boats that can fit eight people are sold. The photo on the website is usually the second one. What you reserve is usually the first.
Disappointment comes on the pontoon: you go up expecting a quiet deck and you find a queue. And with the boat full, everything that made the plan attractive—anchor wherever you want, eat seated, stay with the dolphins—is no longer available.
If you are also traveling with small children or with someone who gets seasick, the choice becomes really uncomfortable: either overcrowded boat, or a sailboat that lists.
The proposal
A cruising catamaran for eight, not an excursion boat for two hundred
The Tenerife catamaran excursion is probably the best-selling nautical activity on the island, and also one of the worst understood. In Puerto Colón and Los Cristianos there are huge catamarans that do three shifts a day with one hundred and fifty or two hundred people on board. It is a formula that works and costs little per head, but it is more like a bus with a sail than going sailing.
What we offer is a private catamaran: the Lagoon 43 (Ky Dong), a 2025 unit, or the Lagoon 46 (Machango). Four cabins, four bathrooms, full kitchen and large bathtub at the same height as the living room. Your group and the professional skipper are on board, no one else.
The advantage of the multihull for an excursion is evident as soon as you try it: no list, so you can walk around the boat, eat and stand without holding on; It has much more exterior surface area per length than a sailboat; and its shallower draft allows you to get closer to the coast and anchor where a monohull does not fit.

Everything leaves from Marina del Sur (Las Galletas). You decide the route and the skipper adjusts it to the part of the day.

Palm-Mar, Playa Paraíso or the coast of Adeje. With the shallow draft of the Lagoon, you anchor closer to land, and going down into the water from the stern platforms is infinitely more comfortable than from a sailboat.

The difference
Private catamaran or excursion catamaran
Both are called "catamaran" and have nothing to do with each other. The excursion boat is a large capacity boat designed to move many people: bar on board, common music, closed hours and a route that repeats several times a day.
Ours is a cruising catamaran of 13 to 14 meters designed for eight or nine people to live on board. That means a real kitchen, four cabins with their bathroom, an interior living room and a bathtub where you can all fit sitting at the table.
The consequence is that the exit is more like having a boat than buying a ticket. It leaves at the time you decide, stops where you want and if the dolphins appear you stay watching.
It costs more per person, of course. In a group of eight the difference is quite narrow, and for a celebration the comparison stops making sense.

Catamaran excursion in Tenerife: frequently asked questions
Is it a shared excursion?
No. The catamaran is exclusively for your group: your people and the skipper get on board, and no one else.
It is the difference with the large capacity catamarans that leave from Puerto Colón and Los Cristianos, which operate filling one hundred and fifty or two hundred seats with fixed hours and several daily shifts.
How many people Can they fit?
The Lagoon 43 (Ky Dong) admits 9 people and the Lagoon 46 (Machango) 8, in both cases with 4 double cabins and 4 private bathrooms.
For day trips without overnight stays, the capacity may be somewhat larger in some cases. Tell us how many there are when you consult and we will confirm which unit fits.
How long does the excursion last?
From three hours—a sunset or a short celebration—to a full day of six to eight hours, which is what we recommend if the plan includes cetaceans or Los Gigantes.
Short excursions are organized in the gaps left by the fleet between charters weekly, so availability depends on the date.
Do I need a degree?
No. All activity outings carry professional skipper included, who is responsible for the boat.
If you have specific qualifications and experience in multihull and prefer to take it yourself, that would be bareboat rental. The Lagoon 46 is not offered in this modality: it has a mandatory skipper.
Do you get less seasick on a catamaran?
In general, yes. The catamaran sails upright and the movement is flatter and less pendulous than on a heeled sailboat, especially at anchor and with a supporting wind.
For groups with small children, older people or someone prone to seasickness, it is the boat that we recommend without hesitation.
Can you eat and drink on board?
Yes. The Lagoon has a full kitchen, refrigerator, kitchenware and an outside table where the entire group can sit. You can bring whatever you want.
If you prefer not to worry, we coordinate catering on board. Ask us when booking.
Which port does it depart from?
From Marina del Sur, in Las Galletas (Arona), a quarter of an hour from Tenerife Sur airport and a few minutes from Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje.

How much does it cost?
It depends on the duration, the date and which of the two catamarans is free. We do not publish a fixed rate because a midweek sunset in January does not cost the same as a full day at Easter.
The skipper is included and there is no intermediary commission. Write us with the date, number of people and plan and we will send you the final quote.
