A sailing trip through Mallorca It's not a boat ride — it's a different experience. When the skipper turns off the engine in open water, raises the mainsail and genoa, and the boat begins to move on the wind alone, there is a quality of silence and movement that cannot be achieved in any other way. The sea against the hull, the sails pulling, the gentle inclination. That's sailing.
At ECC Yacht we offer day trips in any of the 15 sailboats in the fleet: Jeanneau Sun Odyssey, Bavaria Cruiser, Beneteau Oceanis and Jeanneau Yacht — between 38 and 55 feet. Outings with professional pattern included, which takes care of the navigation and teaches you the key points if you want to learn. You do not need a nautical qualification of any kind.
Departures are from La Lonja Marina, Palma. The most popular format is sunset departure (3-4h) and the full day (8h) with swimming stops in cove. If you hesitate between a sailboat, catamaran or boat for a day trip, these are the arguments in favor of the classic sailboat.

The engine off, the sails raised, the purring of the water. A sensation that cannot be achieved in the same way on a boat or catamaran — the hull lists a little, there is purpose in the course, everything feels more alive.

A day trip on a sailboat with a skipper is clearly more cost-effective than the equivalent in catamaran. For 6-8 people who accept the sailing experience, the difference is €1,000 or more per day.

Suitable draft for Mallorca
The 1.8–2.2 m draft of a sailboat fits into most Majorcan coves. The major exceptions (Es Trenc, south of Formentera) are accessible by catamaran, but the rest of the archipelago is perfectly navigated by sailboat.

Patron teaches you if you want
The skipper is an experienced sailor. If you're interested, it teaches you how to steer in open water, help with ropes, and read the wind. A day trip can be the first step to get your nautical qualification and then return in bareboat.

The full day always includes one or two stops in the cove for a swim and food. The options from Palma: Cala Mago, Portals Vells, Cala Vinyes, El Toro, or further south Cala Pi and Es Trenc.

What we are asked most about sailing trips
Do I need sailing experience for a sailing trip?
No. The exit always goes with professional pattern included which deals with navigation. You are only a passenger. If you are interested in participating (taking the helm, helping with ropes), the skipper will be happy to teach you. For something more structured, see sailing classes and courses.
How much does a sailing trip cost?
Sailboat with professional skipper: €600 sunset (3-4h), €850 half day (5h), €1,300 full day (8h). For groups of 6-8 people, it costs around €100-160/person — good value for money compared to other options by sea. If you want a whole week, look rent per week.
How many people can fit on a sailing trip?
It depends on the boat. Small sailboats (Cotufa, Tizón) up to 6-8 people on day charter. Medium sailboats (Akilina, Tomeu, Majadero) up to 8-10. Large sailboats (Joulukka, Le Grand, Tefiti) up to 10-12 on day charter (more than their overnight capacity). For groups of 12+, we value two sailboats in a flotilla.
Are we really going to sail or just motor?
It depends on the wind. If there is enough breeze (8-15 knots), the skipper will hoist the mainsail and genoa in open water and you will enjoy sailing part of the journey. If it is completely calm, we sail by motor — Mallorca has variable winds and it does not always blow. The skipper proposes according to the weather of the day.
What coves can be visited on a day trip?
Full day (8h) from La Lonja: Cala Mago, Portals Vells, El Toro, Cala Vinyes, Cala Pi, Cala Marmols. For Es Trenc, better catamaran due to the draft. For Cabrera, Sóller or Pitiusas, a weekly format is needed. The skipper proposes a route according to the weather and your preferences.
Sailboat or catamaran for a day trip?
Sailboat if you value the experience of sailing, better price-experience ratio, and a slight heel does not bother you. Catamaran if you value stability without heeling, plenty of space, and the possibility of anchoring in shallow coves (Es Trenc, south of Formentera).
