Why a sailboat

What's so special about a sailboat ride?

If you're hesitating between a sailboat, catamaran, or motorboat for a day trip, these are the arguments in favor of the classic sailboat.

🌬️

Royal sailing

The engine is off, the sails are hoisted, the water murmurs. A feeling that can't be achieved in the same way on a motorboat or catamaran — the hull heels slightly, there's purpose in the course, everything feels more alive.

💶

Best value for money

A day trip on a skippered sailboat is clearly more cost-effective than the equivalent in catamaran. For 6-8 people who accept the sailing experience, the difference is €1,000 or more per day.

Suitable draft for Mallorca

A sailboat with a draft of 1.8–2.2 m can navigate most of Mallorca's coves. The major exceptions (Es Trenc, south of Formentera) are accessible by catamaran, but the rest of the archipelago is perfectly sailable.

👨‍✈️

The boss will teach you if you want.

The skipper is an experienced sailor. If you're interested, he'll teach you how to steer in open water, handle ropes, and read the wind. A day trip can be the first step towards getting your nautical certification and then returning on a longer voyage. bareboat.

🏖️

Stop at a cove for a swim

The full day trip always includes one or two stops at coves for swimming and lunch. Options from Palma include: Cala Mago, Portals Vells, Cala Vinyes, El Toro, or further south, Cala Pi and Es Trenc.

Preguntas frecuentes

The most frequently asked questions about sailing trips

Do I need sailing experience for a sailing trip?

No. The exit always goes with patrón profesional incluido who handles the navigation. You're just a passenger. If you're interested in participating (steering, helping with lines), the skipper will gladly teach you. For something more structured, look clases y cursos de vela.

How much does a sailing trip cost?

Sailboat with professional skipper: €600 sunset (3-4h), €850 half day (5h), €1,300 for a full day (8 hours). For groups of 6-8 people, it works out to around €100-160 per person—good value for money compared to other sea options. If you want a whole week, check weekly rental.

How many people can fit on a sailing trip?

It depends on the boat. Small sailboats (Cotufa, Tizón) can accommodate up to 6-8 people on a day charter. Medium-sized sailboats (Akilina, Tomeu, Majadero) can accommodate up to 8-10 people. Large sailboats (Joulukka, Le Grand, Tefiti) can accommodate up to 10-12 people on a day charter (more than their overnight capacity). For groups of 12 or more, we recommend two sailboats in a flotilla.

Are we really going to sail or just use a motor?

It depends on the wind. If there's a sufficient breeze (8-15 knots), the skipper will hoist the mainsail and genoa in open water, and you'll enjoy sailing part of the way. If it's completely calm, we'll motor—Mallorca has variable winds, and motoring isn't always necessary. The skipper will make the decision based on the day's weather forecast.

Which coves can be visited on a day trip?

Full day (8 hours) from La Lonja: Cala Mago, Portals Vells, El Toro, Cala Vinyes, Cala Pi, Cala Marmols. For Es Trenc, a catamaran is best due to the draft. For Cabrera, Sóller, or the Pitiusas Islands, a weekly tour is necessary. The skipper will suggest a route based on the weather and your preferences.

For a more detailed comparison, see the page of catamaran tours.

What type of sailing trips are most popular?

Three top formats: sunset on a sailboat (3-4h, see) specific page), Full day with swim in cove (8h), and farewell or private event (half day or day with closed group, see) boat parties).
