The most frequently asked questions about sailing classes

Do I need prior experience for a sailing class?

Not for the 1-day initiation nor for the weekly course — they are designed for those starting from scratch. For the PER internships, It is assumed that you have passed the theoretical exam (you are in the process of obtaining your certification). For the Yacht Skipper course, it is assumed that you have a PER (Recreational Skipper's License) and a minimum number of prior hours of experience.

Are PER internships officially valid here?

Yes. We work with certified Yacht Skipper instructors or higher, using sailboats approved for PER (Recreational Skipper's License) practical training, and we provide a logbook stamped with the required 24 hours of training. The practical training is valid for obtaining your PER certification from the relevant Maritime Authority. If you need the theory portion, we can refer you to an academy for that.

How much does the weekly course cost?

Weekly immersion course: from €950/person In an open group (you share the sailboat with 4-6 other people + instructor). For a private group (couple, friends), the entire boat starts from ~€3,500 + instructor ~€1,200 = ~€4,700 total. Overnight stays on board during the week cost a supplement (~€50/night/person) or you can come and go from shore.

Which sailboat is used for the courses?

Any sailboat in the fleet is suitable. For beginners or PER (Recreational Skipper's License) practice, the most commonly used are: Cotufa, Tomeu, Katalina, or Akilina (between 38 and 45 feet, manageable and modern). For weekly group courses, medium or large sailboats (Sun Odyssey 440, 490, or 519) offer more space for overnight stays. The choice depends on your skill level and the group.

Can we do a private course as a couple or with friends?

Yes, absolutely. For couples or groups of up to 4-6 people, you rent the entire sailboat plus an instructor. You'll have the instructor's undivided attention and pace dedicated to your group. It's the ideal option for couples or friends who want to learn together and then rent a bareboat. Ask us for a fixed price quote.

What can you learn in a week-long course?

If you're starting from scratch: essential knots, boat parts, engine operation, entering and leaving port, raising/lowering sails, tacking, anchoring, chart/plotter navigation, weather reading, basic safety. You'll leave feeling confident enough to charter your own sailboat. in a bareboat in a subsequent week — always with a moderately sized boat at the start.

What is the best time to take a sailing course?

May, early June, September and October. Consistent winds (8-15 knots, ideal for learning), pleasant temperatures, and less crowded ports and coves. July and August are possible, but it's hotter, there's more maritime traffic, and availability is limited. Book 4-8 weeks in advance for courses during peak season.
